MS890 provides an English as a New Language (ENL) program that supports English language learners develop language and content knowledge in English. Ms. Cho pushes in to core subject areas including ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies and collaborates with content teachers to work closely with English language learners. Students also receive individual and/or small group ENL instruction out of their classes to review their class work and to further build linguistic foundation of English language.
STUDIO: Korean
This class is designed to introduce Korean language to students who have no or a very little Korean language background. Students will study the language's phonetic system, grammar, and vocabulary throughout the year. Students will practice and use the language for speaking, listening, reading, and writing. This semester, students will focus on learning how to express simple ideas such as self-introductions and explaining daily routines. Social and cultural attributes will also be introduced and discussed in every unit, related to the theme and content of the lesson.
Blended Learning / Academic Intervention
Blended learning combines traditional face-to-face classroom learning with web-based online learning. Students participate in small group discussions and reviews, going over contents taught in core subject areas and utilizes a variety of web resources with laptop computers in the classroom. Students take more control and responsibility of their own learning in this class, as self-directed and independent learners with the facilitation of the teacher.
